Eetcafe van Beeren is named after a legendary local greengrocer, which already tells you this isn't some sterile concept spot. It's a low-key eetcafé, the kind of place where you can just show up and slide into a seat without planning your life around it. They keep part of the restaurant free for walk-ins, so spontaneous hangs are actually encouraged. Out back there's a cozy courtyard garden, one of those tucked-away spots that feels way further from the Nieuwmarkt than it actually is. You can eat outside there until 10pm, which is a solid move for summer evenings. The menu is full of seasonal eetcafé classics, and you're looking at around €30 for three courses. Not bad for the neighborhood. They open daily at 4pm, kitchen starts at 5. If you're rolling in late or early evening, your best bet for a bar seat is at either end of the night. It's simple, it's honest, and it does what it says. That's kind of the whole vibe.
