Écluse is a small family-owned winery in Paso Robles, tucked into a quiet canyon on the Westside. It started in 1997 when Steve and Pam Lock bought 30 acres and planted vines with a simple idea: great fruit makes great wine. That idea turned into Lock Vineyard, and the winery grew from there. The name comes from the French word for canal locks, a nod to their travels and, lowkey, their family name. In April 2025, Steve and Pam handed things over to Josh and Gibsey Beckett, second-generation Paso Robles winegrowers who run Thibido Winery. It’s kind of a full-circle moment: Josh actually learned winemaking on this exact property back in the early 80s, when Tobias Winery was founded in the old barn that still greets guests today. So the change feels less like a takeover and more like a homecoming.
