Hideout is a four day electronic music festival on Zrce Beach in Novalja, Croatia. It’s been running since 2011, and it’s grown into one of Europe’s bigger deals for house, techno, disco, and bass. The setting does a lot of the work: five open air stages right on the beach, squeezed between the Velebit mountain and the Adriatic. The days are pool parties, beach parties, and boat parties. The nights are raves under the stars that run until sunrise. It’s not a sit-down-and-listen kind of event. It’s a pick-your-vibe-and-go kind of event, whether that’s catching an established name or someone you’ve never heard of before. The lineup has always mixed big artists with newer ones, which is apparently a point of pride for the team behind it. And the press has been into it for years, calling it a utopia of house and techno, or just a joyful weekend of sonic discovery. If you’re into electronic music and you don’t mind heat, crowds, and minimal sleep, this is probably your scene.
