Since opening in 2015, Shokunin has been recognized among Canada’s Top 100 Best Restaurants for eight consecutive years, with its latest ranking being #74 in 2025.
As the flagship restaurant of Chef Darren MacLean, Shokunin offers exceptional Japanese-influenced cuisine rooted in Canada’s finest seasonal produce. Select ingredients are sourced directly from the chef’s own garden and farm, reinforcing a deep respect for terroir and provenance.
This commitment to Canadian ingredients, combined with the philosophy, flavour profiles, and culinary techniques of Japan, defines Shokunin’s contemporary dining experience.
At the Chef’s Bar, guests are invited to Calgary’s 1st Yakitori Omakase Experience, an intimate exploration of salt, fat, and fire. Seated at the grill, guests witness the precision and rhythm of the robata as each course unfolds.
