Volare isn’t a venue in the typical sense. It’s a nonprofit based in DC that’s been around since 2012, built to support survivors of crime. No drinks, no DJ, no games. Instead, you get free, trauma-informed advocacy, therapy, and legal help, all wrapped up in one place. The vibe is less "night out" and more "we actually got you." They’ve empowered over 12,900 survivors so far, and they’re big on the idea that there’s no hierarchy of victimization. Everyone gets treated with dignity, no exceptions. They also do policy work and trainings, trying to change how the system responds to harm in the first place. What makes it worth knowing about is the commitment. They started as a crisis response team for sexual assault survivors in hospitals, keeping a 100% response rate from day one.
