De naam Alias staat voor Algemene Letteren Is Anders Studeren, de studie Taal- en Cultuurstudies heette vroeger Algemene Letteren. Het is een hele brede studie en iedereen kiest zijn eigen vakken, dus de studiestichting is opgericht zodat studiegenoten toch kunnen bonden met elkaar.
